George Poovelil Varkey

George Poovelil Varkey went to his heavenly abode in the early hours of Saturday May 30, 2020. He was born May 10th, 1930 to K.V. and Mariamma Varkey in Kuriyannoor, India. His mother, a schoolteacher, was extremely influential in his life and he often told stories to share the lessons she taught him to his grandchildren. In 1953, he married Ammini George, and together they raised their four children in Pulikeezhu. He worked as a mechanical supervisor in Pulikeezhu Travancore Sugar Mills for 40 years. All who worked with him knew him to be a hard worker, humble, and caring towards all he encountered. Following the passing of his loving wife, he moved to America to live with his daughter and son in 1991 and has lived there ever since. George Varkey is survived by his 4 children - Suma, Sam, Suja, and Saji - 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was an unceasing source of inspiration, encouragement, and joy for all of his loved ones, who have cherished countless precious moments enjoying his deep wisdom, voice, laugh, kindness, and smile. His steadfast faith, joy, peace, and unshakable trust in the unfailing goodness of our God has set an example for all of his children and grandchildren for generations. His hands were the hands that gave freely, loved deeply, and earnestly sought to do the will of God in all things. He was loved and cherished very dearly, and while he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him and will miss his beautiful smile, we find solace and comfort in knowing he is in peace in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ.
