Betty Mae (Nixon) Collop, age 93, passed away on Feb. 11, 2019 at her home in Dallas, Texas. She was born on Jan. 11, 1926 in Stockport, Iowa. Her parents were William Allen Nixon and Faye Cora (Peck) Nixon. She was the youngest child in her farming family. On Mar. 4, 2015 she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Dr. Robert N. Collop D.O., formerly of Kirksville, MO. Bob and Betty married in Oct. 1945, and while Robert went to medical school in Kirksville their first son John was born in 1948. They then moved to Detroit, Michigan for his internship, where Mark was born in 1950. Setting their sights for Texas and moving to the Dallas area in 1950, giving birth to identical twins Steve and David in 1951. They then settled in the east Dallas area having son Doug in 1954. They became lifelong members of the First Presbyterian Church in 1955. Mrs. Collop was active for many years in national, state and district Osteopathic auxiliaries, as well as, national and local Memorial Hospital Guilds. She was also honored with a lifetime membership to the Texas Congress Parent and Teacher Association. Formerly active in various garden clubs and associations. At one point in 1980 she wrote, "I've enjoyed my years as a wife and a mother and think one of the joys of old age is grandchildren, and must not forget my daughter in laws. Not having had daughters I really appreciate them.". She was a prototypical “Soccer Mom” forever carting her boys 'hither and yon', ferocious in her defense of her children, (deserving or not), supporting her husband and gladly counseling the unfortunate souls in search of Dr. Collop’s “Columbia FREE Clinic”. A true servant soul, always caring about and proving for the needs of others. Blessed be her memory both now and in the kingdom to come.
