Catalina (Cepeda) Reyes

Cuando una persona vive 110 años, tiene suficiente tiempo para dejar un legado. Catalina Reyes, con sus 110 años en este mundo, nos dejo un legado de amor y belleza.
Catalina se durmió pacíficamente en la madrugada el día después de San Valentín. Ella despertó en la presencia de Nuestro Senor y Salvador, se fue a reunir con su esposo y su familia.

Catalina Cepeda nació el 30 abril del 1907 de Jose Angel Cepeda y Natividad Heredia en el estado de Durango, Mexico. Ella siempre conservó un hogar donde había paz y amor.
Tenía como su major amiga a su hermana Maria Cruz Heredia. Catalina fue una niña tierna y cariñosa. En Mexico conoció al amor de su vida, Cruz Reyes, tuvieron un hermoso noviazgo y contrajeron matrimonio en el 1925. Catalina soñó con ser esposa y madre los sueños se le hicieron realidad y concibieron 6 hijos, 4 mujeres y 2 varones. La casa de Catalina era llena de amor y valores humanos. Se le conocía por sus sabrosos frijoles y salsa picante que hacia, amaba cocinar y cuidar de su familia.

Catalina Cepeda y Cruz Reyes siguieron a sus hijos a los Estados Unidos en el 1965. Ajustarse a un país y a una cultura nueva siempre es difícil pero para ella su casa siempre fue donde su familia estuviera.  Le gustaba visitar a sus familiares en Mexico cuando podia y disfrutaba de su nuevo hogar en los Estados Unidos.

A ella siempre le gustaban las plantas y siempre tenía flores de colores y especialmente le gustaban las rosas de color rosa, las flores le alegraban su dia.

El amor de Cruz y Catalina también floreció en su hogar con los nietos, bisnietos, tataranietos y cuatrinieta. Le encantaba ser abuelita.  Devotamente Católica siempre fue un ejemplo de Fe y un modelo de servicio al prójimo ese es el legado mayor que ella deja para su familia. Por mucho tiempo, Cruz y Catalina fueron miembros de la iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Perpetuo Socorro. Catalina amaba a Dios. La Paz que viene de conocer al Señor y a la Virgen de Guadalupe, a la que siempre le rezaba, irradiada de Catalina.

Su legado continua en aquellos que quedan atrás.  A Catalina le sobreviven sus hijos: Celia Cuentas, Minerva Roman y esposo Elias, Sara Carrillo y esposo Patricio, Olivia Rivera, M Jose Reyes y esposa Elodia, Valentín Reyes y esposa Evangelina. También deja 27 nietos, 59 biznietos, 39 tataranietos, 1 cuatrinietos.  A Catalina la reciben en el cielo su amado esposo de 66 años, Cruz Reyes, sus yernos, Luis Cuentas y Amado Rivera, sus padres Jose Angel Cepeda y M Natividad Cepeda, y su hermana Maria Cruz Cepeda.

La familia recibirá amistades el Lunes 19 de febrero del 2018 en Hughes Family Tribute Center de 5p – 8 pm con el Rosario a las 7pm. Una misa se llevara a cabo el martes el 20 de febrero del 2018 a las 2pm en el Cementerio Calvary Hill. Después será puesta a descansar junto a su amado esposo en el cementerio de Calvary Hill. Catalina sera recordada por su amor a Dios y a su familia por las generaciones venideras.

Living 110 years gives a person a long time to leave a legacy and Catalina Reyes in her 110 years on this earth left a legacy of love and beauty. Catalina went peacefully asleep on Valentine’s night and woke up the next day to meet her Lord and Savior and reunite with her husband and family.

Catalina Cepeda was born April 30, 1907 to Jose Angel Cepeda and Natividad Heredia in Durango, Mexico. She had a peaceful and loving home. She always had a best friend because she had a sister, Maria Cruz Heredia. She was a warm and loving child. In Mexico, she met the love of her life, Cruz Reyes. They had a beautiful courtship and then married in 1925. Catalina always dreamed of being a wife and mother. Her dreams came true and she and Cruz raised six children together. Catalina’s home was warm and nurturing. Known for her frijoles and hot sauce, Catalina loved to cook and care for her family.

In 1965, she and Cruz, followed their children to the United States. Adjusting to a new home can be difficult but Catalina’s home was always where her family lives. She enjoyed trips home to Durango to visit extended family but loved her new home as well.

Gardening was always a passion of Catalina. She loved all kind of flowers and her yard was always peaceful and pretty with lots of colorful flowers, especially her signature pink roses. Flowers gave Catalina great joy.

The loved blossomed in their home as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren arrived. She loved being Abuela. A devote Catholic, she always was a spiritual role model for her family. As a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Catalina loved her church. The peace that comes from knowing the Lord radiated from Catalina.

Catalina’s legacy of love will continue in those she leaves behind. Catalina is survived by her children, Celia Cuentas; Minerva Roman and her husband, Elias; Sara Carrillo and her husband, Patricio; Olivia Rivera; Jose Ma Reyes and his wife, Elodia; Valentin Reyes, Sr. and his wife, Evangelina. She also leaves behind 27 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, 39 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great grandchildren. Catalina joins in heaven her beloved husband of 66 years Cruz Reyes; her sons-in-law Luis Cuentas and Amado Rivera; her parents Jose Angel Cepeda and Natividad Heredia; and her sister, Maria Cruz Heredia.

The family will receive guests on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Hughes Family Tribute Center from 5 pm to 8 pm with the rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 2 pm at Calvary Hill Mausoleum Chapel. She will then be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Calvary Hill Cemetery.

Catalina will be remembered for her love of the Lord and her family and her legacy of love will live on for generations to come.
