Edmundo Leyva Garcia

Life Story

Edmundo L. Garcia, Jr., 74, passed away on October 7, 2019.  Ed was born o January 25, 1945 in Kingsville, Texas to Guadalupe and Edmundo Garcia, Sr.

Ed loved music.  He practiced for many, many hours perfecting his playing the double bass.  He received his Bachelor and Master of Arts in Music from the North Texas State University.  He was an honor graduate.  He was chosen as Outstanding Man in Music and listed in “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.”

He was the owner of Trax City for approximately 25 years.  He was the music instructor at the University of Texas in Arlington for 20 years.  He was a member of the Ft. Worth Symphony and Dallas Chamber Orchestra.  In addition to his orchestral performances, he played with many other symphonies around the North Texas area.  Ed also toured with many well-known artists like Roy Clarke, Willie Nelson, Sergio Méndez, and Brazil 66.  His band was invited to play for the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan.  He was a vocalist and played the double bass as a soloist.  Ed helped many artists with their recordings at his studio. 

Ed divided his time between his teaching of classical bass and his involvement in the Dallas/Ft. Worth recording industry as both a soloist and accompanist in the field of jazz, gospel, and big band.  Ed was loved by many of his students and other musicians.

Ed is survived by his wife, Delfina; his sons, Edmundo Garcia III, Armando Garcia, and Josh Morales; his daughter, Maria Garcia; his sisters, Gloria Pleasants and Naida Segura; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Edmundo Garcia, Sr.; his brother, Armando Garcia; and his sister, Elvia Garcia.
