Daniel Duran Jr., 74, of Burleson, Texas, passed away on September 11, 2025.Born on December 7, 1951 in Kingsville, Texas, Danny was a proud Marine, a steady presence for his family, and a man of simple joys and quiet faith.
He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant E 5 from October 10, 1972 to September 16, 1976. After his service he continued a life of hard work and care for others. He showed love by showing up. He kept what mattered. He brought humor to every room and never overstayed his welcome.
Danny loved the things that made life feel like home. Star Trek and The Big Bang Theory. Gunsmoke and John Wayne movies. NCIS. Tom Clancy novels and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Golf and baseball. Coffee by the pot. A good Chinese buffet. Cheering for the Chiefs. He believed in God and read Scripture daily. With his son he was steady and present. His presence said everything.
Family and friends remember countless quiet kindnesses. One wrote, "I will never forget how when I was in college seven hours from home Uncle Danny came to my awards ceremony when no one else could, or when he picked me up to celebrate Easter with family even though my college was over an hour away. That is the kind of uncle he was, unconditionally kind." Another shared, "He called me while I was at UT and said, 'I am moving out of my place in Waco. If you need anything for your apartment, come by this weekend.' We took three trucks and turned a bare place into a home. That is who he was."
Danny is survived by his son, Daniel Duran III; and his siblings Tina Ramirez, Sylvia Aguilar, Maria Claret Duran, and David Duran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Duran and Ernestina Duran, and by his siblings Lora Marina Lozano and Mario Duran.
He served his country with honor, his family with love, and his Lord with unwavering faith. Though his hands are now at rest, his legacy marches on.
