David Joseph Jusiewicz, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 13, 2025, in Richardson, Texas, at the age of 78. Born on March 12, 1947, in Beverly, Massachusetts, David was the cherished son of Joseph and Ruth McDonald Jusiewicz.
From 1967 to 1970, David served his country with pride in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. As a Navy journalist for The Admiral, he chronicled the stories of service and sacrifice, helping to connect the hearts of sailors to those back home through his words.
David made Texas his lifelong home beginning in 1976. It was there that he raised his two children, Erin and Jonathan. David was a doting grandfather, “Pawpaw” loved taking his grandchildren on adventures, especially to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center where he once worked as a tour guide. He took joy in teaching them about the world, particularly the wonders of the animal kingdom, and instilled in them a spirit of curiosity and wonder.
One of David’s favorite pastimes was fly fishing. He found peace and joy in the quiet of the water and the rhythm of the cast. He took particular joy in hand-tying his own flies. It was both a craft and a meditation for him, a way to connect with nature and find stillness in a busy world.
Never one to be confined by a single path, David followed a richly varied and colorful career journey. He explored radio broadcasting, served as a parole officer, protected others as a security guard, delighted as a tour guide, and ultimately inspired young minds as a college professor. He embraced the life of a “rolling stone,” treasuring each chapter for the growth and connections it brought him.
David also gave generously of his time and heart to his community. He served on the Alvarado School Board and was a dedicated member of the board for a volunteer fire department. Known for his playful spirit, he often entertained local children dressed as a clown or magician during community events for the fire department.
David is survived by his daughter, Erin Grindele and her husband James Grindele; his son, Jonathan Jusiewicz and his wife Sarah Jusiewicz; his treasured grandchildren, Lexi Perez and her husband Christian Perez, Drew Grindele, and Julia Jusiewicz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruth McDonald Jusiewicz.
