Dennis Estep Life Story

Dennis Lee Estep of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on February 20, 2023 at the age of 74 with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with a prolonged illness. He was born on March 26, 1948 to Lonnie and Louise (Zibart) Estep in Louisville, Kentucky. Dennis will be fondly remembered as a cheerful man who loved with his whole heart, delighted in a good joke or a silly dance and was unfailingly generous.

From childhood, Dennis was fond of outdoor sporting, particularly duck hunting and fishing in south Louisiana. He was a lifelong lover of music and would frequently be found playing guitar in his music room. He received a degree in Accounting, with a minor in English, from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Upon graduation, Dennis spent the entirety of his professional career in service to the country - first, as an officer in the United States Army, followed by over 40 years with the Internal Revenue Service. At the IRS, Dennis helped to pioneer the use of computer science in tax research, serving in the role of Research Chief before his retirement.

He was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, where he volunteered as a children's Sunday school teacher for many years, delighting his students with playing songs on his guitar. Dennis enjoyed cooking, and after retirement, made daily trips to his neighborhood Whole Foods Market to collect ingredients to cook dinner inspired by the Food Network shows he loved to watch.

Dennis was the entertainer-in-chief of any family event, keen on toasts to those gathered, and would recount slightly exaggerated tales. He was a doting grandfather who would do anything for his grandchildren, from producing impromptu karaoke sessions to cuddling with them in his favorite chair. On Saturdays, he would cheer on the Louisiana State University Tigers and, thanks to his son, his adopted Texas Longhorns.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cora Estep; children, Philip Estep (Michelle Langloys), Amanda Taylor (Jeff Taylor), Matthew Estep (Meghan Estep) and Nicholas Estep (Suzanne Estep) and 11 grandchildren who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved siblings, Richard Estep and Julie Broussard, and his granddaughter, Avery Estep.
