Douglas Anderson never knew a stranger. Most of us call him Uncle Doug from family to friends he was always known as "Uncle Doug". He was a simple man, fun, goofy, loving and always had a smile on his face as he welcomed everyone. He had a joke for all who would listen. Doug didn't have the opportunity to have children of his own but he helped raise many nieces and nephews and he spoiled all of them from cookies to school supplies he was always so giving. He enjoyed fishing during the spring time. He always looked forward to going with Donald. Donald would catch the crappie and Doug would catch the turtles. "Turtle man" was his nickname because he sure knew how to catch them.
Every Sunday we knew where to find Doug as he loved his church and church family. You knew if he didn't go to church on a Sunday something was wrong because he never missed a Sunday. Wrestling, Dallas Cowboys and westerns were his favorite shows to watch. Sunday night wrestling was a family tradition we would all gather at his sister's house and we would all cook his favorite foods. He loved his Crab legs and fried green tomatoes. In his younger years he enjoyed riding tractors, gardening and growing ivy's. He always had ivy's, even when we told him he had too many he was always clipping and potting more. If there was one thing Uncle Doug wanted to do it was always wanting to see everyone smile so before everyone leaves here today as hard as it may seem, give him a smile and remember to catch a turtle for him this spring.
You might wonder why
Why was your friend chose
To leave this earth so soon
They had so much left to do
There is no clear answer
So instead remind yourself
That while they were still here
They chose you
You to be there confident
Their very best friend
To share in life's moments
And to remember them in death
Doug loved the color blue so join us Friday in your shades of blue.
We would like to give a special thank you to Hunt Regional Medial Center and Legends Rehabilitation for providing his care over the last three weeks.
