It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Pete Mavrokordatos, who left us peacefully on August 17th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer at 69 years old. Pete lived a life marked by love, dedication, and remarkable achievements.
Born and raised in Larnaca, Cyprus, Pete immigrated to the United States in 197 5where he pursued a doctorates degree in economics. He became a beloved professor of economics, where he made an indelible impact on countless students and colleagues. His intellect, kindness, and dedication to education will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to learn from them.
As a devoted husband of 47 years to Lucy Mavrokordatos, a cherished father to Kyriacos and Stavroula, and beloved Pappou to Ava, Michael and Amelia, Pete was truly the cornerstone of their family. He embraced his role as a partner, parent and grandfather with unwavering love and commitment. The lessons he imparted through his actions and words will continue to guide and inspire his loved ones for years to come.
Throughout his battle with cancer, Pete fought on with incredible strength and grace. His resilience and positive spirit were a beacon of hope and a testament to his character. He faced each challenge with a bravery that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew them.
A memorial service to celebrate Pete's life will be held on Wednesday, August 21st at 7pm and the funeral will take place on Thursday August 22nd at 10am, both at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The George Nikolopouls Scholarship fund in Pete's honor.
Pete will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched, both personally and professionally.
