“I’m just too colorful for words.” – Clairee from Steel Magnolias
Frances Luera, beloved Mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away into the care of her Lord on Monday, January 2, 2023 at the age of 80 years old. Frances was born to her parents, Joe Marquez and Sally Dorothy Guevarra, on Saturday, October 10, 1942 in Dallas, Texas. Ever since Frances was a little girl, she had such a heart for her family. Family meant so much to her, and it was her deepest joy to care for her husband, raise her 9 children, and to later spoil her 27 grandchildren who lovingly called her Memo. Nothing was better than Memo’s homemade tortillas or her warm pancakes. Her home was filled with love, wonderful smells like her cooking and White Diamond perfume, and many, many angel figurines. She loved being surrounded by her angels and her birds. She had a passion for beautiful cardinals with their delicate songs and lovely red (which was her favorite color) feathers. She would often point out birds while outside or taking her grandchildren to the park. While Frances enjoyed listening to birds sing, she also loved to hear the music and tunes of her favorite musicians like Selena and Ruben Naranjo. Amongst all her favorite passions, Frances valued her faith in God. She always made sure to read her Bible everyday. She relied upon her faith in loving her family, helping others, and standing firm when life got hard. Frances truly had a golden heart that was founded upon her faith in the Lord and her love for her family. Her life, love, and faith provided a beautiful legacy that will never be forgotten by her loved ones.
Frances Luera leaves behind her children, Esther (Jesus) Piña, Mary Frances Varela, Gloria Luera Ramirez, David Luera, Fernando (Elvia) Luera, Mague (Domingo) Acevedo, and Betty (Jose) Morales; her 27 grandchildren; her 59 great-grandchildren; her 7 sisters; and her 2 brothers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Salas Luera, and her sons Phillip Luera and Pedro Salas Luera, Jr.
