Gloria Alvarez, a woman whose heart overflowed with love and whose life was a testament to compassion and devotion, peacefully departed from this world on May 19, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born on the family ranch in Ojinaga, Chihuahua in Northern Mexico on March 2, 1938, Gloria was surrounded by the beauty of nature from the very beginning. Her deep affection for ranch life was instilled within her, shaping the compassionate and nurturing soul she would become.
Gloria was the beloved daughter of Simon and Angelita Cortez, and she grew up in the warmth of a large and loving family. Her childhood was filled with the joyous laughter of siblings, cousins, aunts, and uncles. It was within this nurturing environment that she learned the true value of family and the importance of supporting and caring for one another.
Immigrating to the United States, Gloria found her forever love in Blas Alvarez. Together, they built a life rooted in love and commitment. As they embarked on the beautiful journey of marriage, they were blessed with the gift of seven children, each a testament to their enduring love. Gloria's innate ability to care for others made her a natural nurturer, and her children grew up knowing the warmth and comfort of a mother who loved unconditionally.
Love was Gloria's language, and her home was a sanctuary of love and nourishment. As a dedicated homemaker, her house always emanated the enticing aromas of her delicious cooking. Among her culinary delights, menudo held a special place in her heart, a dish she prepared with love and shared generously with family and friends.
Gloria's legacy extends far beyond her immediate family. She leaves behind a beautiful tapestry of 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Her love and guidance will continue to ripple through generations, as her gentle spirit and compassionate nature are woven into the very fabric of their lives.
A devoted Catholic, Gloria found solace and strength in her faith. She was a prayer warrior, turning to Our Lady of Guadalupe to intercede for the well-being of her cherished family. Her unwavering faith provided her with comfort and the belief that love would conquer all.
In a final act of togetherness, Gloria will be laid to rest at Calvary Hill Cemetery with her beloved husband, Blas Alvarez. Together, they will forever remain in each other's embrace, united in eternity.
Today, as we bid farewell to Gloria Alvarez, let us remember the legacy she leaves behind-a legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness. May her spirit continue to guide and inspire us, reminding us of the importance of family, the power of love, and the joy found in nurturing those around us.
Gloria joins in heaven her parents, her husband, her beloved grandson, Xavier Alvarez and her beloved daughter, Mary Lou Alvarez. She leaves behind to cherish her memory six children, Nick, Lydia, Junior (Pam), Joe (Noemi), Arturo (Rachel), and David (Betty); 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Rest in peace, dear Gloria, knowing that your love lives on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to be touched by your grace. You will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our memories.
