Jo Owens Life Story

Evelyn Joleta "Jo" Owens, 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on June
7, 2024. A proud native Texan, she was born on August 19, 1925, in Pecan Gap, Delta
County. Jo was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great
grandmother. In her senior year of high school, she met the love of her life, Andy
Owens, of Commerce, Texas, while he was on leave from the Army Air Corps during
WWII. They married on November 11, 1945, and settled in Dallas, Texas. She was a
stay-at-home mother while her children were young and eventually went to work for
Dallas County as a court clerk. At the age of 57, she graduated from the Dallas
County Sheriff's Academy and retired as bailiff for the 193rd District Court.

A strong and independent woman, Jo loved her family and friends and was always
ready to help in times of need. She was a great cook for someone who didn't like to
cook, as she preferred to be outside gardening and working with her flowers. She
was never one to sit and watch TV. When Jo and Andy weren't involved in church
activities, you might find them bowling at Bronco Bowl, playing dominoes at home with
friends and family, or attending their grandchildren's activities.

With Jesus being her only hope in this life and the next, Jo was a faithful and devoted
member of First Baptist Church of Dallas for 69 years, where she was involved in
teaching, visitation, and Bible studies. After moving to Carrollton, she attended First
Baptist Church at the Fields, Carrollton, TX, where she made many friends later in life. It
is a joy to know that she is right now enjoying the presence of her greatest friend, the
Lord Jesus Christ.

Jo was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years Andy Owens, her
parents Ray and Thelma Jones, her daughter Tammie Owens, her three brothers,
Ray Jones, Jr., Bobby Jones, and Garland Jones, and her sister Billie Petersen.
She is survived by her son Brad Owens (Wadia) and daughter Charlotte Kivioja (Larry),
seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren,
as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thank
you to the wonderful caregivers at Sonoma House, Carrollton, TX, who lovingly cared
for Jo over the last 2 ½ years.

A memorial service will be held at Hughes Family Tribute Center, 9700 Webb Chapel
Rd, Dallas, TX 75220, on June 21st. Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM,
one hour before the memorial service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made in Jo's honor to First Baptist Church Dallas, 1707 San Jacinto St., Dallas, TX
