Johnny Boyd Isbell Life Story

Johnny Boyd Isbell, a man of many talents and passions, passed away on April 25, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. Born in San Manuel, Arizona on May 10, 1958, to J.R. and Jean Isbell, Johnny grew up in Northeast Arkansas with his three sisters. Despite a childhood filled with love, Johnny knew early on that he was destined for bigger things and spent his first 22 years planning his escape.

Johnny's love of the arts led him to pursue a degree in Music Education from Arkansas State University, after which he moved to Commerce, Texas, to earn his master's degree in Vocal Performance from East Texas State. During his studies, he began working as a long distance operator at AT&T and ultimately stayed with the company for 31 years, retiring as a broadband network operations manager. Despite his success in the corporate world, Johnny never lost his love for the arts and continued to pursue his passions throughout his life.

In Dallas, Johnny met and fell in love with Daryl Hinshaw. Together, they shared a life of tranquil harmony, except when cheering on their beloved Dallas Stars as season ticket holders. At playoff games they would paint their beards bright green to cheer on their team. Johnny's passion for opera and theater took him to opera houses and stage theaters in Dallas, Santa Fe, and around the country and the world. He had a beautiful voice and often shared it with friends and family at churches and weddings.

Johnny had a green thumb and could grow anything, with roses and Amaryllis being his favorites. His sense of humor, infectious laugh, and beautiful smile lit up every room he entered. Johnny will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering devotion to his passions, his love for Daryl and their life together, and his close friends and family.

Johnny leaves behind his devoted partner and husband of 30 years, Daryl Hinshaw; sisters Phyllis Stadler and her husband Len, Brenda Nichols and her husband Frank, and Rhonda Isbell; and nieces Holly Morris and her husband Mike, and Dana Devereux and her husband Allen; and six great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents J.R. and Jean Isbell and nephew Todd Stadler.

As we say goodbye to Johnny, let us celebrate his life and the memories he created with those he loved. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Rest in peace, Johnny Boyd Isbell.
