Lessie Wiese Life Story

Lessie Hamilton Wiese, age 97, passed away in Plano, Texas on July 28th, 2019. She was born on December 12, 1921 in Corinth, Mississippi to Harlan and Ida Hamilton.

Lessie’s mother and father moved around due to work related transfers and settled in Henderson, Texas. It was there she and her brothers Billy and Edwin grew up and Lessie met the love of her life Woody Wiese who was working for the Texas Company around Henderson. They were married November 19, 1938 and started a family.

He later transferred to New Orleans where they lived for several years.  They moved back to Henderson when World War II broke out, and he enlisted in the Navy.  Lessie and the children stayed with her family in Henderson; and when the war was over, they moved to Dallas, settling in Oak Cliff.

They began attending Calvary Baptist Church where Lessie devoted her time to teaching Sunday school. She also was a Bluebird troop leader for her daughters Lessie, Kathy and Gynelle. In 1961 they moved to north Dallas and joined the newly formed Royal Haven Baptist Church and became dedicated members. Lessie again devoted her time to teaching Sunday school.

After the birth of their son Harlan, she and Woody enjoyed traveling to football games across the country to watch him play. Lessie loved the time she got to spend with her family most of all. She was a wonderful cook. Many gatherings took place in the family home sharing holiday meals and major life events.

Lessie and Woody got to spend 65 years of marriage before he passed away in 2005.
