Lucille Margaret Christensen Witty was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 19, 1923 and passed away on February 1, 2023. After growing up in Omaha, she worked for a while after high school in Hollywood California and one of her favorite memories there was cruising in a convertible near the Brown Derby at Hollywood and Vine. There she met her husband, a Navy sailor named Robert Witty. After they married, she lived the military life moving from place to place for years as her husband was promoted along the way to a US Naval Officer gaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Lucille had three daughters and spent most of her life as a housewife and mother but, in later years, she worked in the retail business at Sakowitz and various resort hotel gift shops. She ended up in the Houston, Texas area when her husband retired from the military and went to work as a system engineer for Lockheed under contract to NASA. Living in the midst of the astronauts during the height of the space program was an exciting place to be.
Lucille lost her husband in 1990 and spent many of her remaining years working in various gift shops including South Shore Harbor near NASA....which is where she once met Tom Hanks as he was filming the movie Apollo 13. In her later years, Lucille moved to the Dallas area to be closer to family. Lucille was a loving mother and friend who will be dearly missed. She lived a long and healthy life to the ripe old age of 99.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her youngest daughter Sharon Hayden and two brothers and a sister. She is survived by her daughter Julia Bondi and grandchildren Amy and Colin, along with Amy's children Patrick, Christopher, and Sebastian. She is also survived by her daughter Susan and husband Jack, along with grandchildren Kevin/wife Vicki and Ryan. She is also survived by her son-in-law Matthew Hayden, nieces Nancy Henricksen and Norma Zunzunegui, and nephews John and Gary Christensen.
There will be a celebration of life for family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the World Central Kitchen.
Rest in peace sweet Lucy!
