Maria Reddeck Life Story

A radiant soul from Madrid, Spain, Maria Reddeck passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. A devoted wife to Alec for more than 60 years, a loving mother to Tony and Estelle, and a loved grandmother to Avery, Jack, Max and Baz, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

An only child, Maria was born and raised in Madrid before leaving to attend college in London. Maria returned to Madrid, where she met Alec; soon after, the two married and moved to the United States. Alec's job at Exxon moved their family between the United States and Europe before finally settling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where they lived for over 45 years. Maria embraced the community in Baton Rouge where she eventually acquired a boutique clothing store, ChéBeck. Maria's love of fashion kept her working tirelessly and joyfully each day in her boutique.

Though Maria and Alec remained in Baton Rouge after retirement, they enjoyed traveling extensively. This last year, Maria and Alec moved to Dallas, Texas, to be closer to their daughter and her family.

A typical Madrileña, Maria embodied the warmth and zest for life of her native city. Her enthusiasm and spirit touched everyone she met. She had a keen eye for fashion and loved expressing herself through her classic style. Reflecting her appreciation for art, she filled her home with beautiful art and furniture. Maria was talkative, friendly, and outgoing, Maria's rare gift for conversation uplifted everyone she met. Her infectious personality allowed her to connect with people from all walks of life.

Maria's reserved her greatest love for her grandchildren. A doting Yaya, she showered them with affection and memories. Through the souvenirs and sweet gifts she brought from her travels, her grandchildren always knew she was thinking of them. Her memory will be a constant source of love, laughter, and strength for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luisa Herencia and Antonio Astiarraga. She is survived by her husband, Alec, son Tony, his wife Teenie, their children Avery and Jack, daughter Estelle, her husband Michael, and their children Max and Baz.

Accompanied by family members, she will return to Spain for a Christian burial. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
