Marion Virginia Dawley Norris, born on June 11, 1928, in Norfolk, Virginia, to William Buxton Dawley and Ruth Isabelle Hodge, lived a life full of love, grace, and adventure. Growing up in Norfolk, Marion cherished family trips to New York City, where they visited relatives and shopped for school clothes. Her early years were marked by joy, laughter, and the warmth of a close-knit family. Marion attended William and Mary College, and among her fondest memories were the elegant Naval Academy dances she attended during her college years.
After completing her studies, Marion began her career as a medical technician before becoming a flight attendant for American Airlines-a role that fueled her passion for travel and exploration. It was through mutual friends that Marion met the love of her life, Pel Norris of Nashville, Tennessee, on a blind date. Their connection was instant, and the two married in 1951, later settling in Dallas, Texas. Together, they raised two daughters, Marion Paige and Kerri Neal, creating a loving and supportive home. She and Pel were members of Highland Park Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.
As a devoted mother, Marion poured her heart into raising her daughters. Once they were grown, she embraced new opportunities, including helping to manage a natural foods store and becoming a top salesperson during the Dallas Market Center's annual gift show for over 20 years. Marion and Pel shared a deep love for travel, enjoying adventures across the U.S. and overseas, with a particular fascination for the culture and art they encountered in Taiwan and China.
Marion had many passions, including gardening, caring for animals, and sharing her extensive knowledge of nutrition and health with friends and neighbors. She was admired for her elegant sense of style, creativity, and artistic talents-her beautifully crafted table decorations for holiday dinners were a family favorite.
More than anything, Marion's greatest pride and joy was her marriage to Pel. She was a devoted and supportive wife, embodying strength and generosity throughout their life together. Marion's kindness, warmth, and unwavering love will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
