It is with great sadness that we announce that Mary Carolyn Hart, age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 28, 2025. She had lived in San Marcos, Texas since 2022 and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a very active member of First United Methodist church in San Marcos.Carolyn was born in Alabama to parents William Oliver (W.O.) and Ella Mae Barkman where she lived with her sister Kay Francis Barkman. From Alabama, her family moved to the East Texas area, including Hughes Springs and Longview; she graduated from Pine Tree High School. She later graduated from Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas.After moving to Dallas in 1960, Carolyn married James Melvin Hart. They were married 63 years and had two children Susan Elizabeth Hart and April Michelle Hart (Burns, spouse Sean). Carolyn worked for many years with the Texas Highway Department and with Baylor Hospital in bookkeeping roles. She was a founding member of The Mesquite Community Theater and contributed to their success for over a decade. She also completed requirements to be a Lay Chaplain and received several awards and recognitions for her volunteer efforts with various arts organizations, hospitals, and church missions.Carolyn lived her life fully committed to the Lord, supporting her friends and family, and contributing to the needs of those in the communities in which she lived. She was one of the most friendly, welcoming people and truly enjoyed conversations with each and every person she met. One would instantly feel special by her warm smile and giving heart. Recently, Carolyn could often be seen walking with her beloved dog, Jack, and loved reading, sewing and was famous for her beautiful plants.Carolyn is survived by her children Susan and April, her step-daughters Rhonda Kay Davis and Margaret Elaine Stewart-Hart (spouse Marjorie); grandchildren Rusty, Kimberely, Stacy, Oksana, Christina, Anya, Collin and Sarah; great grandchildren Taylor, Brittany, Sidney Kay, and great-great grandchildren Gavin and Rylee.Carolyn was truly a special person who inspired many with her faith, joyous nature and kindness. She will be greatly missed.
