Dr. Narayan Ramachandra Joshi passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on March 11, 2023 surrounded by family. He was born in a Brahmin family in Solapur, Maharashtra on February 24, 1936 to Ramachandra and Janaki Joshi. He is survived by his wife, Padma Joshi, daughter Priya Joshi and husband Mahesh Pethe, their daughter Ashna Pethe, daughter Leena Carvajal and husband Olman Carvajal.
Dr. Joshi received his MSc in Electronics from Poona University, India. He received his MS and PhD in Mechanics and Materials Science from Johns Hopkins University, MD. He was a professor in engineering at University of Maryland, MD, Lamar University, TX, and Prairie View A&M University, TX. Dr. Joshi worked for General Electric, Oak Ridge National Laboratories, Southwest Research Institute, and Texas Instruments. He has approximately 60 research publications to his credit. He was a fellow of the American Society for Non-Destructive Testing. He holds three patents.
Dr. Joshi's passions not only included his academic teachings and experimental research, but also theology and linguistics. He was a lifelong teacher & student of life. His work on theology and linguistics have been published in numerous magazines. He was respectful and able to appreciate perspectives from all cultures and religions. His writings & teachings have been a source of encouragement for many.
