Niranjan Shah Life Story

In Loving Memory of Dr. Niranjan G. Shah
June 22, 1945 - September 21, 2025

Dr. Niranjan G. Shah lived a life that bridged continents, friendships, entrepreneurship, and above all, family.

He was born on June 22, 1945, in Sankheda, India, to Goverdhandas, a dedicated journalist, and Shardaben, a loving homemaker. He grew up in a close-knit family with three brothers, Manmohan, Yogesh, and Uday, and one sister, Rama.

In his formative years, Niranjan moved to Baroda and attended Experimental High School followed by Baroda University. In 1970, he embarked on a new journey to the United States, arriving in Los Angeles on a student visa. Living with his brother Manmohan, both single at the time, Niranjan pursued higher education with determination and focus. He earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky, during which he traveled abroad for research in Austria, Brazil, and beyond. His Ph.D thesis explored the chemical impacts of tobacco, reflecting his commitment to meaningful scientific inquiry.

After completing his studies, Niranjan began his professional career at Tyler Pipe. In 1977, he returned to India to seek a life partner. As part of the traditional process, he was introduced to over seventy women. Among them was Lata, the one he fell in love with. Their special connection quickly blossomed into marriage, and soon after, they began their new life together in Tyler, Texas.

In May 1979, they welcomed their first son, Kalpit, while living in Tyler. After time in Wichita and Oklahoma, the family eventually made Dallas their home, where they were blessed with two more children: daughter Grishma and son Sankalp.

In 1983, Niranjan founded LNS Environmental Services and opened his own laboratory, combining his deep knowledge of chemistry with an entrepreneurial spirit. In 1988, the family moved into their beautiful home in Plano, Texas, which over the next 35 years became a welcoming haven for relatives, friends, and especially his beloved grandchildren.

Niranjan's passions were many: music, travel, cars, fitness, timepieces, and great food. He was known for his strength, wisdom, spirituality, and humor. He touched the lives of many with his generosity, helpfulness, and kind heart.

Niranjan also deeply valued his community. Over his 40+ years in Texas, he was a pillar in an extensive group of friends who together celebrated life's ups, downs and milestones. They became his Dallas family and remain a vital source of love and strength to his wife and children today.

He deeply valued family and prioritized the education and well-being of his children. Together, the family enjoyed countless road trips and international travels, often accompanied by extended family. His home was not just a house - it was a gathering place filled with love, laughter, and lifelong memories, and it became the centerpiece of his life's most meaningful moments.

After 32 successful years with LNS Environmental Services, Niranjan retired in 2015 at the age of 70, generously donating his entire laboratory to the University of Texas at Dallas to support future scientific endeavors.

Between 2010 and 2015, his three children found their life partners - Kinjal, Sachin and Neha, blessing Niranjan and Lata with six beautiful grandchildren who continue to carry forward his legacy. Samara, Sahil, Avika, Sonia, Liam and Luca.

Niranjan Govindhandas Shah leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, spirituality, and strength. His life was one of purpose and deep connection with family, friends, and his community. His presence will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
