Captain Rex Kathcart, Jr., 85, passed away Monday, October 5, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, October 8th at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Tx with Dr. John Hannah officiating.
Rex was born April 24,1935 in Ft.Worth, Texas. He grew up in Bryan, Texas, graduating from Bryan High School in 1953. He then went on to attend Baylor University, enrolling in the Air Force ROTC program and graduating in 1957. Rex served his country proudly as a Captain in the U.S.Air Force 59th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (1957-1967). During his service in the Air Force he was stationed in Newfoundland, Canada during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon his leaving the Air Force, Rex, was hired as a pilot for Braniff International (1967-1989) and attained the rank of Captain. He absolutely loved flying and was so proud to be a Braniff pilot that was asked to fly the Baylor University football team to games.
Rex was a devout Christian his whole life. Attending church and worshipping the Lord were very important to him. He was a wonderful husband and a devoted father. He was a huge sports fan, but football was his favorite. He enjoyed the outdoors and tinkering in his garage and was definitely a “Mr.Fixit”. In the later years, he found enjoyment being on the parking committee at Stonebriar Community Church and driving around for the Neighborhood Crime Watch. He was VP of the Braniff International Silver Eagles organization and took great pride in organizing many memorable reunions for Braniff for many years.
Rex is survived by his wife of 60 years, Yvonne Streetman Kathcart; his children Ken Kathcart (wife Ellen) and Kim Kathcart Irwin; his grandchildren, Sarah Irwin Bailey (husband Alex), Jackson Irwin, Rex Kathcart and Emma Kathcart. He was predeceased by his parents, Rex Kathcart, Sr. and Gladys Felder Kathcart.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Stonebriar Community Church Grace Gathering/Missionaries.
