Robert Barrientos Life Story

Robert Barrientos was born on November 24, 1959, in Dallas, Texas. He was adopted as a child, along with his sister Cindy, and raised in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. Later, a brother, John Jr., joined the family. These early years shaped Robert into a man who learned to stand on his own and developed the strong will and independence that would define him throughout his life.

Robert grew into a man with a presence you could not miss. He had a loud, commanding voice that filled a room. Some people were caught off guard at first, but those who knew him understood his heart. He was loyal, passionate, and deeply devoted to the people he loved. He believed things should be done the right way, and he was never afraid to stand by his opinions or debate a point until he felt it was settled.

In 1978, at a Dallas disco, Robert noticed a beautiful young woman who immediately caught his eye. They danced, and he asked her out. She said no. She said no many times. They had met at a bar, and she was not easily convinced. But Robert was persistent. He kept coming back, dancing with her, talking with her, and showing up again and again. Eventually, she agreed to a date. They fell deeply in love.

On February 10, 1979, Robert married Mary Frances Gonzales. To him, she was Frances. To everyone else, she was Mary. When they were dating, Robert drove a blue Camaro that turned heads wherever they went. Later in life, his Ford truck became his pride and joy. Driving was part of who Robert was, and he loved it.

Robert and Frances shared nearly 47 happy years of marriage. Together they raised three children, Monica, Robert Jr., and Rebecca. Robert worked hard, provided for his family, and took pride in being a husband and father.

Three years ago, the family experienced profound loss with the passing of their son, Robert Jr. Around that same time, Robert became a grandfather. His granddaughter Juliana became the light of his life. Grandpa adored her. He spoiled her with toys, made sure she always had money when they went to the store, and cherished every moment they spent together. Their bond brought joy and comfort to the entire family.

Robert was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. That loyalty never wavered. He also enjoyed following the Dallas Stars. Game days were serious business, filled with passion, opinions, and plenty of commentary.

He loved to drive and drove for a living. Being on the road suited him. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, often turning work trips into opportunities to explore. Nevada, New Mexico, and Kentucky were among his favorite destinations.

Robert enjoyed trying his luck in Las Vegas, Winstar, and Lone Star Park. Texas Hold’em and the slot machines were his games. At the racetrack, he could always be heard cheering loudly for his horse as it came down the stretch. Each morning, after buying his breakfast sandwich, Robert would purchase a ten or twenty dollar scratch off ticket. He would eat, scratch his ticket, and watch the world go by. If he won, he shared it. He split winnings with Juliana or took Frances out to eat.

He loved Tejano music and grilling for his family. Burgers, ribs, and hot dogs were always done his way. An ice cold Bud Light in a bottle, his daily Big Red, and a sweet tooth that leaned toward Little Debbie cakes, oatmeal pies, blueberry donuts, and muffins were part of his routine.

Holidays were spent with extended family, grilling, joking, and laughing together. He also had a close group of friends who shared stories and laughter over breakfast at the Waffle House. At home, his favorite place was his garage, where Tejano music played, sports were always on, and the grill was ready. It was his happy place.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Mary Frances Barrientos, his daughters Rebecca and Monica Barrientos, his granddaughter Juliana Barrientos, his brother John Barrientos Jr., and his nephew Steve Barrientos.

He is reunited with his beloved son Robert Barrientos Jr., his parents Sophie and John Barrientos, and his sister Cindy.

Robert Barrientos will be remembered for his strong presence, his love of the road, his loyalty to family and team, and the full life he built with the people he loved most.
