Robert Scanlon Life Story

Robert Blair Scanlon passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 in Ft. Worth TX. at the very young age of 53. Bobby was born June 15,1966, in Yonkers, New York. His family moved to Dallas in 1975 where he attended school and met some of his closest allies. Bob was a free spirit and never met a stranger. He loved music, many of his friends were involved with bands who played in clubs around Dallas. He and his friends were deeply involved in the early years of what was to become the booming Deep Ellum music scene of the 80’s and 90’s. He assisted and toured with many of the bands during that time and affectionately became known as Babachew Bob by all who knew him. Those were some of his favorite and most memorable times.

It is frequently said that when God made Bob, he broke the mold. He truly lived life to the fullest. Although many might think it is a tall Texas tale, Bob did in fact run away to the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus at the age of 15. He rode his bike to Reunion Arena with a duffel bag of clothes, buddied up with the circus performers and the animal trainers, and was tasked to sell cotton candy and feed the lion and elephants. He was on the train and was ready to pull out of the station when, much to his disappointment his family came and took him home. His wanderlust never ended. He traveled north to sell lemonade at pow-wows, lived and worked with the Renaissance Fair entertainers for a few years, then became a truck driver to continue his life on the road.

Bobby was a kind soul with a unique wit and charisma, was boisterous, yet soft-hearted, always positive and encouraging to his friends, and was genuinely sweet in spite of his tendency to instigate controversy at times. When his health began to fail him he remained positive and hoped for a longer life. He will be dearly missed by friends and family. He was predeceased by his mother Emily Eaves and his father Robert Bernard. He is survived by his sister Emily Crump, husband Jeff, niece Emily Blaire, nephew Justin and cousin Ellen Dennis Avery.

A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church 8200 Devonshire Dr. Dallas, TX on Thursday, March 12, 2020, at 3:00 p.m.
