Robert Leon Shiflet, 80, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on February 27, 2024.
Born on June 15, 1943 to parents Lillian Lee (Howard) Shiflet and Nolan Leon Shiflet in Dallas, Tx. Robert would move several times, in his early childhood, back and forth from his family's farm in Edgewood, Texas to the South Oakcliff area in Dallas. At a young age, while living in Edgewood, he attended a tent revival in East Texas, where he was baptized and accepted Christ.
He graduated from South Oakcliff High School in 1961 and went on to attend Henderson Junior College before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1963. Robert completed basic training at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California, and later served for six years in the US Marine Reserves. He deeply loved his country and cherished his time as a Marine.
In 1969, Robert settled his family in East Dallas with the birth of his first daughter, Jennifer, followed by a second daughter, three years later, Shelley.
Robert began his career with Mobil Oil Corporation in 1966 at the Magnolia Building of downtown Dallas. He would retire in the year 2000 after 33 years of service with the company, and many close friendships.
In retirement, Robert enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking, and working in his yard.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Nolan Leon Shiflet, mother, Lillian Lee(Howard) Shiflet, and sister Betty Agnes (Shiflet) Gray. Robert is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Shiflet Taylor with husband Cory and granddaughters Emma and Kara of Longview, Texas, Shelley Shiflet Rodriguez with husband Rodolfo and granddaughter Liliana of New Braunfels, Texas, his Brother in Law, Glen Gray, of Huntsville, Texas, one niece, numerous cousins and life long friends.
A visitation is planned for Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Hughes Family Tribute Center on Webb Chapel in Dallas, with a graveside service following at 3:00 pm at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
