Samir Bhattacharya Life Story

Samir K. Bhattacharya (1945–2025)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Samir K. Bhattacharya, a cherished member of the Carrollton community, for 41 years. Born on November 13, 1945, in Calcutta, India, he made the United States his home in 1971 and passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, December 7, 2025, at the age of 80.

Affectionately known as Somli, he is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mala; his devoted children, Rimi and Raj; his daughter-in-law, Bethany; and his four treasured grandchildren, Nick, Rani, RJ, and Malia. He is also survived by his eldest brother, Amor Bhattacharya, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A man of deep warmth, generosity, and steady strength, Samir lived a life centered on family and community. He was always welcoming and kind, leaving a positive mark on everyone he met.

Samir enjoyed a fulfilling career as an accountant, working for major corporations including Mobile Oil and Southland Corporation, and retiring from Citigroup. He applied his skills with diligence and integrity, mentoring colleagues and making meaningful contributions throughout his professional life.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, he found great joy in soccer and tennis. In his younger years, he played soccer passionately, later coaching Raj and refereeing alongside Rimi and Raj. He also competed in local tennis tournaments and, in recent years, proudly cheered from the sidelines, supporting his grandchildren with unwavering pride.

His generous spirit, gentle guidance, and love for family enriched the lives of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and devotion that will be remembered by all who were fortunate to know him.

Funeral and cremation services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Hughes Family Tribute Center, 9700 Webb Chapel Road, Dallas, Texas 75220.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
