Steve was born on July 24, 1945, in Galveston, Texas to Greek immigrant parents, Evangeline Gamvetas and Angelo Agalou. He remained in Galveston until he graduated from Ball High School in 1963. He then went to the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his B.B.A, in accounting in 1967. After graduation, he joined the Marine Corp Reserves, which he left in 1976 as a captain.
When Steve first arrived in Dallas, he worked in the restaurant business, following the tradition of his father, who owned a restaurant in Galveston. He soon changed careers, however, and worked for over 40 years as an accountant, mainly in oil and gas. It wasn't until he retired that he found his most enjoyable employment, working as a part-time associate at the Home Depot. He loved helping people solve their home-related problems, and especially giving treats to the customers' dogs. Steve loved animals, as evidenced by the many stray cats he adopted and cared for over the years.
He loved his family, and shared a special bond with his brother Nick, with whom he shared a house for almost 40 years, and who was Steve's caregiver for the last 8 months of his life. He also loved his sister, Elaine, and her husband Bill, who helped care for him in his last few months. He thought the world of his nephews, their wives, and grandnieces, as well as his special friend, Joanne Freeman.
Steve was devoted to the Greek Orthodox Church, as were his parents. Growing up he was an acolyte in the Galveston Church, and as an adult, was active in the Dallas Church. He especially loved working at the Dallas Greek Festival.
Steve was pre-deceased in death by his parents, Evangeline and Angelo Agalou, and survived by his brother Nick Agalou. sister Elaine Agalou Dupre', brother-in-law William Dupre', nephews Brian (Emily) and Phillip (Alicia) Dupre', grandnieces Zoe and Kate Dupre', and cousins George, Vicky, Patricia and Morgan Klaras, Helen Zournas, Katherine Kazanas, and George Nicolaides. He also had many cousins from Galveston and Greece. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be sent to either the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 13555 Hillcrest Rd., Dallas, TX 75240, or the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 714 19th Street, Galveston, TX 77550,
