It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Shri Syamasundara Prasad Turaga (S.P. Turaga), on March 14, 2023, in Dallas, TX, due to medical complications. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
He lived a full and accomplished life with a discipline and commitment that was exemplary. Till his last days, even at 82, he was independent and active.
He was known for his tough exterior, but those who are well acquainted with him and could break that barrier, experienced the love and affection he showered on them and it stayed like that forever.
He had rich values and principles which he passed down to his children and families.
Shri S.P. Turaga was born in Tarakatoor, India on Dec 15, 1940, and went to school in Vijayawada. He did his Masters in Science, Chemistry, from Indore and went on to start his career in ONGC as a Junior Technical Assistant in 1963 and after a long stint in this organization, retired as Chief Chemist in 1998. He is fondly remembered by his colleagues, many of whom became close friends and stayed in touch with him for years, even post retirement.
Shri S.P. Turaga was married to Smt. Pramila Rani on May 8, 1968 who joined him in his travels throughout India as was required by his job. She took great care of him and was his close partner, friend and confidant. She was like a rock in his life, providing complete support, guiding him and being there with him through the ups and downs of life. They were blessed with two children who they cherished and loved and provided great care for, with an upbringing that ensured they led happy lives.
Post retirement, Shri S.P.Turaga became part of a social service organization. He helped develop curriculum for schools in villages and would himself visit the villages to teach the children.
He was also a visiting professor at Andhra University in Vishakapatnam where he taught post grads on the topics of cement slurry design, which was his main forte during his days in ONGC.
A few years after his wife's demise, Shri S.P. Turaga moved to United States to live with his children. Here, he spent a lot of time writing articles on varied topics, like places to visit in United States, importance of water, poems on his grandchildren, who he loved and adored.
Shri S.P. Turaga leaves behind his children, Durga Prasad Turaga and Anuradha Kommamuri, his children-in-law Narasimharao Kommamuri and Archana Turaga, his 4 grandchildren, Siddharth Turaga, Aakanksha Turaga, Ashwin Kommamuri and Niharika Kommamuri.
He is dearly missed by his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.
