Verna Ann Petty passed away peacefully on August 4, 2020. She joined her husband and son to see her Lord and Savior in heaven. Verna, as known as “Cookie” to her family, was born in McAlester, Oklahoma to her parents Verna Veatrice and John Davison. She had a happy childhood with playing with her many siblings. She met a special young man and on November 27, 1958, when she was 16, James Petty and Verna accompanied by their parents went to Durant Oklahoma to get married.
. They raised three sons and had a happy marriage until his passing in 2013. Life had difficulties, but they with their faith and each other they faced each challenge. This most difficult time was the passing of their son, Johnny Petty in 1978. Verna loved her job as homemaker; she always kept a nice organized house for her beloved family. Verna and her husband were long time and active members of Christian Center Family Church. Her life was truly defined by her faith. Verna also enjoyed watching movies at home and loved to collect DVDs of her favorite movies. She enjoyed the music of Elvis Presley, along with other Gospel and Christian music.
Verna is survived by her two sons James Michael “Mike” Petty and David Ray Petty; six grandchildren, Shannon, Christy, Michael, Laurie, Johnny and Mark; six great-grandchildren, Victoria, Hayley, Magnus, Kayleigh, Skylar and Nevaeh; and siblings Jimmy Davison, Barbara Jean Horton, Clara Belcher, Rita Hendrix, Drenda Strong and Becky Alonzo. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Edward Petty; son Johnny Petty; and brothers, Virgil “Butch” Davison and J. E. Ramsey.
Verna will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
