Walter Thomas Moner was born on March 7, 1963, in Holguín, Cuba, to Walter Crescenciano Moner and Blanca Margarita Pizarro Moner. In 1970, he immigrated with his family to Bridgeport, Connecticut. After graduating high school, he joined his family in Dallas, Texas, where he would spend the majority of his life. In his final six years, Walt found a second home in Gun Barrel City, where he built meaningful friendships and neighbors truly became family.
Walt was deeply curious by nature, with a passion for learning that began early. While still in high school, he attended machine school, later earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and his master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University.
After graduating from UT Arlington, Walt worked in accounting and sales before discovering his true calling—sharing his love of learning with others. He began his teaching career in 2000 and, over the next 22 years, served students with dedication and heart. Through encouragement and compassion, he inspired countless young people to believe in themselves and strive for their very best. Walt retired from the Dallas Independent School District, leaving behind a legacy of learning, service, and a lasting impact on the lives of many.
In 1999, Walt experienced a profound renewal of faith during his Tres Días weekend, where he was redeemed by his Lord and Savior. A devoted servant of Christ, he lived his life as a reflection of Matthew 5:16: “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” His love for the Lord was evident through faithful service in Tres Días, mission work in Peru, and at Sojourn Church, where he and his wife, Ana, served on the personal ministry team. Along the way, he formed lifelong relationships and was deeply cherished as a true Hermano en Cristo.
Walt was blessed with friendships that spanned decades—relationships rooted in loyalty, laughter, and unwavering support. He cherished time with friends and had a rare gift for making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and truly known. He left a lasting impression wherever he went.
Walt is survived by his beloved wife, Ana, with whom he recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was the devoted father of three wonderful children: Gabi Kelso and her husband Kevin, Ben Moner, and Matthew Moner and his wife Whitney, who were the joy of his life and the center of his heart. Walt also shared a special bond with his faithful German Shepard, Maya, who brought him joy and comfort. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed by his love, guidance, and quiet strength. His legacy of devotion, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Above all, Walt was a devoted son, loving husband, and proud father. His family was his greatest joy, and his steady presence and quiet strength were the foundation of their lives. His love endures and will continue to guide them always.
